چکیده
Mixed-heritage individuals (MHIs) are known to face high levels of social exclusion. Here, we investigate how raciolinguistic ideologies related one’s heritage language abilities add these exclusionary experiences. The results from 293 MHIs reveal frequent experiences marginalisation members each their communities because racial appearance and practices perceived as deviant outside imagined ‘monoracial’ norms. Specifically, over half respondents described exclusion for not speaking minority languages with the same accent or manner fluency associated native speakers dialects. Another subset pressure speak ‘proper English’ in White dominant work environments. These extend past MHI by empirically documenting ‘monoracial-only’, monoglossic, ‘Standard that contribute continued MHIs.

متن کاملMixed encounters, limited perception and optimal foraging.
This article demonstrates how perceptual constraints of predators and the possibility that predators encounter prey both sequentially (one prey type at a time) and simultaneously (two or more prey types at a time) may influence the predator attack decisions, diet composition and functional response of a behavioural predator-prey system. Individuals of a predator species are assumed to forage op...

I’ve been asked to say something about the evolution of the...
متن کاملRobots Learn to Recognize Individuals from Imitative Encounters with People and Avatars.
Prior to language, human infants are prolific imitators. Developmental science grounds infant imitation in the neural coding of actions, and highlights the use of imitation for learning from and about people. Here, we used computational modeling and a robot implementation to explore the functional value of action imitation. We report 3 experiments using a mutual imitation task between robots, a...
